Home Inspection

Why should I have my home inspected?

Having a home inspected is like giving it a physical check-up. If problems are found, the inspector can recommend further evaluation.

The standard home inspector's report will review the condition of the home's heating system, central air conditioning system, interior plumbing and electrical systems; the roof, attic, and visible insulation; walls, ceilings, floors, windows and doors; the foundation, basement, and visible structure.

You should learn as much as you can from the inspector about the condition of the property and the need for any repairs. A home inspection will also point out the positive aspects of a home. After the inspection, you will have a much clearer understanding of the property you are about to purchase.

In selecting a home inspector, you may want to find out if they are members of one or both of the following organizations:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

American Society of Home Inspectors

The American Society of Home Inspectors ASHI) Standards of Practice guide home inspectors in the performance of their inspections. Subject to regular review, the Standards of Practice reflect information gained through surveys of conditions in the field and of the consumers' interests and concerns. ASHI's Standards of Practice are the most widely accepted home inspection guidelines in use and are recognized by many government and professional groups as the definitive standard for professional performance. ASHI Members have performed no fewer than 250 fee paid inspections in accordance with the ASHI Standards of Practice. They have passed written examinations testing their knowledge of residential construction, defect recognition, inspection techniques, and report writing.
